Cougars Take Second At Kinsley Novice Forensics Meet

The Kinsley Novice meet is always an adventure because he have numerous first-time performers; in fact, only those who are in their first year of Forensics may participate. Some of our Cougars branched out and entered in “new” events. Cora Anderson presented her Informative Speech on Sports Injuries while Maddie Wiltse spoke in the same division about the pros and cons of being tall. (She thanks Coach Hagans for throwing her under the bus and forcing her to perform an Informative Speech!) Ben Welsh also competed in this division by giving a speech on Origami. Leah Collins and Amanda Sizemore participated in Serious Solo. Leah performed “Guilt” and Amanda gave her rendition of “Daddy Drinks Too Much”. In addition, Ashtyn Butler read a prose piece entitled “The True Story of the Three Pigs” by A. Wolf.

In Improvised Duet Acting, Tanner Loucks and Ben Welsh teamed up for two performances entitled “The Blind Lie” and “Birthday Heist”. Maddie and Cora also competed in IDA by creating “Flying Pigs” and “Trouble In The Soda Factory”. Finally, Cora, Leah and Maddie participated in Impromptu Speaking. In this event, a topic is drawn and they have five minutes to prepare a speech. The topics at this meet were Famous Dates, Ab stract Words and Proverbs. Overall, the night was a success as many broke finals.

In addition, those students in their third and fourth year of Forensics are allowed to judge in Novice Meets. Seniors Cody Kaler, Taylor Regan, Justin Scott, Alix Schneider and Cayla Steinert served as judges for the night.

Many Cougars placed well overall:

Cora Anderson: 6th in Informative Speaking 4th in IDA (with Maddie Wiltse)

Ashtyn Butler: 4th in Prose

Leah Collins: 3rd in Serious Solo 2nd in Impromptu Speaking Amanda Sizemore: 5th in Serious Solo

Maddie Wiltse: 4th in Informative Speaking 4th in IDA (with Cora Anderson) 1st in Impromptu Speaking

The following qualified for State Festival: Cora and Maddie in IDA; Ashtyn in Prose; Leah and Maddie in Impromptu Speaking.
